German streamer shows how he made it into Twitch’s international top 10

Kevin “Papaplatte” Teller is one of the larger German streamers on Twitch, but with a special event he managed to break into the international top 10 in July 2023. Now he is reviewing his record stream again.

What was that event? The 3rd edition of the Reddit event r/place took place from July 20th to 25th. It is an interactive canvas on which users can place colorful pixels to create works of art together.

All information about the event can be found here:

The German Twitch streamer Kevin “Papaplatte” Teller was also at the start of this year’s r/place and completely took over the screen. In a video he summarizes how he won the big pixel war.

Long the No. 1 on Twitch, Félix “xQc” Lengyel was also fighting for his place on the silver screen.

How did Papaplatte do at r/place? On the first day of his participation, the Twitch streamer got into it a bit haphazardly. Here the French rush to his Twitch colleague Rumathra, there pixel the iconic red and white “Döner Kebab” logo – was there the Polish flag? oops

When Papaplatte just took over the Indian flag, the strength of his community was already evident: In no time at all, they had created a white area that the Twitch streamer could now fill as he pleased. No sooner had he decided on the logo for the children’s program “Toggo” than his viewers started pixellating.

Papaplatte then started a small argument with Turkey because they had attacked a monument to the late YouTuber Technoblade with their flag. Happy with his day’s performance, the Twitch streamer ended the day only to find the next morning that his artwork had been obliterated overnight.

Here’s how he changed his tactics: The 26-year-old was beginning to be more thoughtful, forging alliances and joining forces with other communities, but also acknowledging when to give up. In addition, the Twitch streamer acted skillfully and made his opponents attack other works instead of his own.

Papaplatte attracted international attention with his actions, so that he allied himself with the American streamer Mizkif against the “My Little Pony” faction or joined forces with the Spanish streamer Rubius after he had actually attacked them.

We have already reported on a special highlight here on MeinMMO: Papaplatte finally managed to prevail against xQc, one of the largest streamers in the world. The former Overwatch pro had to admit defeat and admitted defeat.

The Twitch streamer ended the event with a nasty farewell greeting to the Reddit boss.

The “German xQc” beats the original

This is how the event affected the streamer: Papaplatte was able to record absolute record numbers with r/place: With over 120,000 simultaneous viewers and more than 35,000 subscribers, he achieved a new personal best (via TwitchTracker).

How many viewers were there just to get upset about the streamer after he attacked their community’s artwork is anyone’s guess.

In Germany, the pixel war Papaplatte meanwhile made number 1 as the most watched streamer, internationally it ended up in fourth place.

In fact, the event had such a strong impact that the streamer holds 9th place overall for the month of July 2023. For comparison: in the previous month, Papaplatte was still in 33rd place (via sullygnome). It was also something special for Papaplatte.

Particularly impressive: Papaplatte is considered by some to be “the German xQc”. The original only landed at number 15 in July. However, he also streamed less on Twitch as he splits his time between the two platforms since his million dollar deal with the competitor platform Kick.

In his video, Papaplatte thanks everyone who supported him and diligently pixelated: It was a wonderful weekend and his strongest stream ever.

And even the video about his success became a success: Because the Twitch streamer ended up in fourth place in the YouTube trends.

Papaplatte has already shown in the past that he has a solid community, but is still capable of rapid growth. You can read here how he made it into the top 10 in 2021:
