A specialist doctor in Halland is deemed to have illegally read 40 patient records. The region has reported the doctor to the police and notified her of her dismissal, reports Hallands Nyheter.

On twelve different occasions – between January and May this year – the woman has accessed the medical record system to read her colleagues’ patient records. The breach was discovered via a log check, and the doctor has defended her actions by saying she felt discriminated against, and that she wanted to find out if she had been mentioned unfavorably in her colleagues’ medical records.

– There is nothing to indicate that the employee has spread the information, but of course we still take this seriously. Because so many medical records were involved, the region has seen it as a basis for notifying the employee of dismissal, says Marianne Kondrup, head of communications at Halland’s hospital, to the newspaper.

Affected patients have been notified of the incident by letter.
