Twitch streamer Asmongold is known for his constant criticism of Blizzard and their games. Whether it’s WoW, Overwatch 2 or Diablo 4, no one finds such clear words for the game company’s mistakes. With his criticism of Blizzard, Asmongold has become one of the most successful streamers and has become rich. But that comes with a downside: Blizzard doesn’t want him as a sponsor partner. That rankles the Texan.
This is Asmongold’s ratio to Blizzard:
Asmongold wants to go on strike because Blizzard won’t pay him
This is what he notices now: Recently, some major streamers have been playing the title “Overwatch 2” again – Blizzard has also offered streamers associated with Asmongold sponsor deals to show the shooter.
As the founder of the streamer clan “One True King”, Asmongold is well informed when one of its members, like Emiru, brings home the big checks from Blizzard.
“Will I play Overwatch again? I saw xQc played it today. I don’t know. I actually wanted to come back and play it. But you know what? I shouldn’t do it. I should go on strike! You pay Emiru to play Overwatch and I play it for free?”
Here’s what it looks like when xQc believes he could become “one of the best players in the world” in Overwatch anytime:
Asmongold then elaborates:
When Asmongold then learns that Erobb also has a sponsorship deal with Overwatch, the streamer is finally over. It resonates, he clearly plays in a much lower league than me:
“You sponsored Erobb? Oh come on fuck off You sponsor Erobb and not me? Screw it, that’s a joke!”
I never said anything bad!
When asked that his criticism could turn out to be a risk for the Blizzard brand, he replies that it’s complete nonsense. Anyone who pretends to be a Brandrisk is an idiot.
He never said anything bad. People should only tell him one thing, the worst thing he’s ever done. The chat then replies that he insulted the devs.
“Well then, tell me two things,” says Asmongold with a slight twitch of the corner of his mouth.
That’s behind itr: That’s all meant with a wink.
It’s logical that Blizzard doesn’t sponsor anyone who is already playing their games all the time, because they don’t reach a new target group that way.
Streamers in particular, who are otherwise known for other content (and are probably much cheaper than Asmongold), are ideal for Blizzard as sponsor partners.
Asmongold should also be clear that he cannot be Blizzard’s biggest critic and its advertising mascot at the same time.
The relationship between Blizzard and Asmongold seems to be a bit strained on both sides:
