Is Baldur’s Gate 3 worth it for you? The short check before release

Baldur’s Gate 3 will be released on August 3rd. In a short check, MeinMMO shows who might be interested in the role-playing game.

What is Baldur’s Gate 3 anyway? Baldur’s Gate 3 is the latest installment in the popular RPG series that started in the 1990’s and is set in the town of the same name, Baldur’s Gate. The predecessor, Baldur’s Gate 2 appeared over 20 years ago.

The role-playing game developed by Larian Studios relies on a turn-based combat system in which you can use various attacks. Since Baldur’s Gate is an offshoot of “Dungeons and Dragons”, you have melee and ranged weapons as well as spells and magic at your disposal. On top of that, Baldur’s Gate 3 can be played solo or in online co-op with up to four players. If you decide to go on your journey without friends, you have various NPC companions available with whom you can interact and who will help you in battles.

Baldur’s Gate 3 will be released on August 3rd, 2023 for PC on Steam and GoG. The PS5 release will then follow a month later, on September 6th, 2023.

Also, Baldur’s Gate 3 has been available in Early Access on Steam since 2020. However, the developers advise that early access players should delete their existing saves.

  • A comprehensive character position with many details is a must for me.
  • I’m a fan of role-playing games and I like to step into the shoes of different characters.
  • In role-playing games, I follow the dialogues carefully and even longer video sequences don’t deter me.
  • I’m an avid Dungeons and Dragons player and I’m excited to see a video game set in the DnD universe.
  • I enjoy games in which I make decisions that affect the course of the story.
  • I’m a fantasy fan.
  • I like turn-based battles and like to think carefully about how best to play my next move.
  • The replay value of a game is important to me and if I can discover new things on the third or fourth run, I feel good.
  • I prefer games with a strong story and I want as many hours of play for my money as possible.
  • I want to play online co-op with friends.
  • Baldur’s Gate 3 – Who is it for?

Why should I Baldur’s Gate 3 view? Baldur’s Gate 3 is a classic fantasy RPG set in the DnD universe, in which you will meet different characters with their own backgrounds and goals on your journey. You conduct numerous conversations with different dialogue options, make decisions and find new allies and loves.

On top of that, Baldur’s Gate 3 can be played solo or in online co-op with up to four players. If you decide to go on your journey without friends, you have various NPC companions available with whom you can interact and who will help you in battles.

In the turn-based battles, you have to think carefully about how to proceed and which actions are best to play out your turn ideally. However, you not only determine your actions, but also those of your NPC companions, who can also die in battle.

So if you like fantasy role-playing games, dungeons and dragons, and turn-based combat, Baldur’s Gate 3 might be worth buying for you.

Who isn’t interested in Baldur’s Gate 3? The turn-based battles and the isometric perspective can be decisive criteria.

If you prefer to play role-playing games like The Witcher in third-person or even first-person perspective and engage in action-packed sword fights yourself, Baldur’s Gate 3 may disappoint you. There are many pauses in the battles where you plan your moves.

In addition, Larian Studios’ role-playing game is less suitable for you if you like to skip cutscenes and follow the dialogues only sporadically. The interaction between the characters is an important aspect in Baldur’s Gate 3.

If you want to know more about the gameplay of Baldur’s Gate 3, then read our preview on MeinMMO:

What is Baldur’s Gate 3 about exactly? Baldur’s Gate 3 takes place about 100 years after its predecessor and once again takes you to the legendary city. It is currently being attacked by illithids who, among other things, infect your character with mind flayers.

Mind Flayers are parasites that nest in your mind and use you as a host. They give their host special powers and make it possible, for example, to manipulate other living beings. In return, they try to get you to do evil things.

Of course you now want to remove the nasty parasite from your mind before it takes over your body and mind and save the residents of Baldur’s Gate from the threat – or give in to the lust for power and the evil parasite in your head and become the ultimate villain.

What does Baldur’s Gate 3 offer? In addition to online multiplayer, a distinctive character editor and an open world, Baldur’s Gate 3 advertises a range of content and facts related to the game’s story:

  • A story with 3 acts, the first act of which was already playable in Early Access
  • There are 12 classes and 46 subclasses
  • 11 races, most of which are taken from the Dungeons & Dragons core rulebook
  • The ability to play a Paladin as an Oathbreaker
  • Romances with different characters
  • So-called “Origin Characters” like “The Dark Urge”, who have a pre-made story including their own wishes and attitudes
  • Alchemy as a crafting system
  • The possibility of combining different classes
  • In addition, Baldur’s Gate 3 should offer 17,000 alternative endings and 174 hours of cutscenes. The game therefore offers a high replay value due to the selection of races and classes, the different endings and the countless cutscenes.
