Paintings, coins and jewels. A woman who worked in home care in Stockholm is convicted of aggravated theft from five people, and she is also sentenced to larceny for pawning valuables that were then sold at auction, something that the news agency Siren was the first to report on.
One of the cases concerns an almost 100-year-old woman in Vällingby who was subjected to theft after she activated her security alarm. The housekeeper came there and alerted paramedics, and after the ambulance picked up the woman, the housekeeper stayed behind and ransacked the jewelry stash.
In that theft, the domestic worker got rings, watches and necklaces that the elderly woman valued at almost SEK 200,000. One of the rings that was stolen, a diamond ring, was sold at auction for SEK 32,000.
Stolen large oil paintings
From an elderly man on Kungsholmen, the maid stole four paintings, three of which were large oil paintings. As an explanation to the police, she said that she thought the paintings were littering the floor, and that she might as well take them.
Three of the paintings were later discovered by the police at the pawn shop. Other paintings that disappeared from the elderly man have not been found.
Considered particularly rough
The domestic worker also carried out thefts in Kista, Spånga and Stocksund.
The Court of Appeal considers the thefts to be particularly serious because the woman took advantage of her position as a healthcare professional. She is sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison for five counts of aggravated theft and one count of embezzlement despite her denial.
The woman will be in custody awaiting the prison sentence.
