Guide: Here are the lawsuits against Donald Trump

First charge: Accounting offences

In March, 34 charges were presented against Trump. He is accused of making payments to people who threatened to leak sensitive information about an affair with a porn actress. The trial is scheduled for March 2024.

Second indictment: The Mar-a-Lago documents

Trump was indicted in June on 37 counts. They mainly concern his handling of classified government documents that have been stored at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida after his time in the White House. The trial is scheduled for May next year.

Third indictment: The 2020 election and the storming of congress

Federal prosecutors are investigating suspicions that Trump and his advisers have tried to change the results of the 2020 election. The investigation concerns, among other things, possible pressure on official representatives in several states.

Prosecutor Jack Smith, who is investigating the storming of the Capitol, filed charges on Tuesday regarding Trump’s actions in connection with the incident. The indictment is on four counts and the crimes are described, among other things, as conspiracy.

In addition, several other lawsuits are pending against him, both federally and at the state level:

Investigation in Georgia

An investigation is underway into the phone call Trump made to state election commissioner Brad Raffensperger, in which Trump wanted him to “find the 11,780 votes” needed for Trump to win over Joe Biden.

Investigation in New York

New York state attorney general has sued Trump for misleading tax officials about the value of real estate and golf courses to get loans and tax breaks. A civil case will begin in October.

Civil case of rape

A newspaper columnist claims she was raped by Trump in the 90s. In May, he was ordered to pay $5 million in damages for sexually assaulting and defaming her, claiming that her statement was a lie to sell books.

Trump has denied the allegations and is appealing the punitive damages award. In addition, a new defamation trial awaits in January when Trump once again mocked the woman on television.
