Collectors secure the rarest Nintendo Switch, was only produced 10 times – “5 years wanted, 1 year negotiated”

The collectors behind the consolevariations page have been searching for the rarest Nintendo Switch variation for years. Now they could get the part.

What kind of switch is that? This is a super special edition only given to the winners of Nintendo Labo’s Creator Contest. Labo is that crazy cardboard Switch game.

A total of 10 consoles were made in Labo optics and if you look at the results of the contest, all participants deserved it. But more on that below.

Here’s the good piece in all its glory:

This special switch comes with the complete cardboard look and at first glance it actually looks like the thing is made entirely of cardboard.

How did collectors find the Switch? On Twitter, the folks behind “consolevariations” responded to comments a bit, revealing a few small details. So they didn’t find the winner of the switch themselves, but it came to the consolevariations discord.

consolevariations does not reveal anything about the price. Only that much:

Tweet translation: “5 years searched, 1 year negotiated. We’ve finally managed to snag the world’s rarest Switch console. The Nintendo Switch LABO console! We got it straight from the winner from back then!”

What did you have to do to get the Switch? With Nintendo Labo you can use the mobile parts of the Switch for a wide range of games and, with a little creativity, you can also create your own games.

In the “Creator Contest” you should submit your own creations, which will then be rated by Nintendo. Amongst others (via nintendo.co.uk):

The cardboard game Labo was an unusual idea that fits perfectly into the Nintendo concept. It had quite a few fans and to this day you can buy crazy constructions from Nintendo, even VR goggles for Switch with cardboard elements.

And apparently the developers also copied something from the contest: a controller to wipe off – Nintendo brings a bizarre toilet game to the switch
