The Prime Minister and the Minister of Justice hold a press conference

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer hold a press conference regarding the security policy situation.
– On Thursday, we will make a decision on intensified internal border control. People with very weak connections to Sweden should not be allowed to come to Sweden, says the prime minister.

In the past 24 hours, Ulf Kristersson has “had a close dialogue” with Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen regarding the Koran burnings and the OIC’s condemnation.

Now the Prime Minister together with Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer is holding a press conference due to the security policy situation.

– The government is considering whether an amendment to the ordinance would be appropriate, possible and how it would be done, says Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson at the press conference.

In addition, he says that the government is working on a “very broad front” to deal with the impending situation.

– We are in daily contact with the Swedish intelligence and security services. That’s how serious we think this is, says the prime minister.

Intensified border control

On Thursday, the government will make a decision on intensified internal border control, Kristersson announces.

– People with very weak connections to Sweden should not be allowed to come to Sweden to commit crimes, says the prime minister.

According to Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer, Sweden needs to know who is trying to enter Sweden in order to prevent threats to public order and internal security.

In May, border controls were introduced again and since then the police authority has been tasked with ensuring and carrying out controls at the internal border. Given the changed security situation, the government now wants to make a decision on intensified border control.

– Sweden has gone from a “legitimate” to a “priority” target for terrorism, says Minister of Justice Gunnar Strömmer.
