So far, everything has indicated that The Mandalorian will continue with a 4th season. The Star Wars series is one of the most successful Lucasfilm projects of the past few years and has taken the world by storm thanks to Baby Yoda. In February, Jon Favreau even confirmed that the scripts for the new episodes are already finished.
Despite the hard work done by Favreau and his team, Lucasfilm’s plans are not set in stone. As Making Star Wars has learned from its sources, season 4 of The Mandalorian sacrificed in favor of another Star Wars film who is preparing the story of Dave Filoni’s Star Wars film.
The Mandalorian season 4 could be made into its own Star Wars theatrical film
Unfortunately, the information available on the exact development status is not very transparent. But we try to break down the state of affairs. In the Star Wars Celebration were in April three new Star Wars movies announced. One continues the story of Rey, one tells the origins of the Force and one brings the Mandoverse (The Mandalorian, The Book by Boba Fett, Ahsoka) from Disney+ to the cinemas.

This film is directed by Filoni, who also works with Favreau on the Mando series. Previously it was apparently planned that the Mando film prepared by two seasons probably The Mandalorian season 4 and Ahsoka season 2. Now the main story of the existing Mando scripts is to be merged into a film that will be released after the new Rey adventure and before Filoni’s Mando film.
The Mandalorian and more affected: The Hollywood strike also throws Star Wars into chaos
There are two main reasons for this: Lucasfilm is refocusing on cinema (it’s been four years since the last Star Wars film). The double strike in Hollywood is likely to be even more decisive. The scriptwriters have been on strike since May and the actors since July many projects stalled are. In concrete terms, this means that Filoni is currently unable to write his Star Wars film.
Developing a script takes a lot of time, especially for a big blockbuster like Star Wars. Accordingly, Lucasfilm could after the end of the strike get a head startturning Favreau’s existing Mando scripts into a film that can then go straight into production while Filoni quietly finalizes his screenplay for the sequel.
Three release dates for upcoming Star Wars films are currently reserved (May 2026, December 2026 and December 2027). Due to the strike situation However, it is questionable whether these deadlines can be met at all. Even the Rey film starring Daisy Ridley, the script of which is said to be very advanced or even finished and due to start shooting in April 2024, could be delayed due to the strike.
