Police shot man in the leg after alarm

The police have shot a man during an operation in a small town north of Umeå. The man was hit in the leg. He was taken to medical care by ambulance, and the extent of his injuries is unknown, the police write on their website.

The man is arrested.

The alarm that the police responded to concerned information that a person fired a weapon and hit a car in which people were traveling. There is no information that personal injuries should have occurred in that part.

A preliminary investigation has been launched into suspected attempted murder, aggravated weapons offense and causing danger to another.

None of the people involved are previously known to the police. Therefore, the police assess that it is an isolated incident.

As regards the police’s use of the service weapon, it must be investigated by the police’s department for special investigations according to current procedures.

No police officers were injured in the incident.
