The unique video shows Magnus Samuelsson’s raw strength – lifts a stone of 130 kilos (!) as if it were an Ica bag

Magnus Samuelsson was the powerhouse who became one of Sweden’s most popular athletes.
He belonged to the absolute world elite – and it’s easy to understand when you watch this clip.
Just check out how he playfully trots forward with a 173-kilo stone in his arms.

It was far from obvious that Magnus Samuelsson would become an athlete. As a youth he was mostly interested in athletics, shooting, hunting and engines, and it wasn’t until a little into his teenage years that he first started lifting scrap metal.

Incomparable career

Thanks to his brother Torbjörn, Magnus Samuelsson became interested in lifting weights, and it was there and then that the beginning of a completely fabulous career began. Samuelsson quickly outgrew Torbjörn’s home gym, which was a gift from grandmother – and the rest is, as they say, history.

Just ten years later, in 1995, Magnus Samuelsson became Sweden’s strongest man, and it wasn’t long before the big international breakthrough came. In 1998, Magnus Samuelsson went all the way in the huge strength competition “World’s Strongest Man”, and the win made him one of Sweden’s most popular athletes. But this was before social media, and before YouTube, and it wasn’t exactly easy to follow his progress.

Incredible rock lift

To this day, it is difficult to get hold of videos from Magnus Samuelsson’s competition days, but every time it appears, you are just as happy. The Youtube account The World’s Strongest Man has now uploaded a clip from Magnus Samuelsson’s winning year – and the branch where you have to carry a stone as far as possible. The stone weighed no less than 173(!) kilos, but for Samuelsson it was like carrying any grocery bag.

At least initially… When Samuelsson turns around 50 meters, he starts grinning a little badly, but he fought his way past all rivals – but was forced to give up around 80 meters. To go that far, with a stone of almost 200 kilos, is of course pure madness – and so incredibly strong. What a fantastic athlete and a performance we will never ever forget.
