We recently attended the closed beta of The Crew Motorfest, which Ubisoft plans to release on September 14.
First look at The Crew Motorfest: First of all, I have to say that; I have loved racing games since my childhood, I can say that I have played and experienced almost all of the racing games on the market, from Need for Speed to Midnight Club, from Midnight Club to Project Cars.
As a racing fan, I had the opportunity to experience the game by participating in the closed beta of The Crew Motorfest, which Ubisoft plans to release on September 14. When I watched the promotional trailer of the game at the Ubisoft Forward event, I did not have much expectation, but after playing the game for long hours during the 3-day closed beta period, I must state that my ideas changed in the opposite direction.

The first two The Crew games were classic open world racing games of average quality you know. The maps of both games consisted of the whole of America. The Crew Motorfest has a much different and richer structure than previous games. The new game of the series is actually presented to us with the festival theme that we are familiar with from Forza Horizon games.
Motorfest, whose entire map consists of the island of Hawaii, welcomes us race lovers with a very enjoyable map to navigate. The design, content and visuality of the entire island is seriously magnificent, the atmosphere of Hawaii is reflected very well both at night and during the day.
If I have to briefly talk about the driving mechanics of the game, let me say that it is not as good as Forza, but it is not bad in itself. Even though it is an arcade game, there are many moments when you cannot feel that you are driving or something. By the way, if you don’t know, let me tell you; In this game, you can use motorcycles, boats and even planes apart from the car.
Naturally, this situation increases the content richness of the game. Aircraft mechanics aren’t quite Arcade, but still nice. Besides, it is very enjoyable to ride a boat. Especially boat races are very enjoyable. To sum it all up, we can say that the use of the vehicles in the game is neither very good nor very bad, it is average.
If I need to talk about the basic progress of the game, Motorfest consists of a series of events under the name of Playlist, There are usually 6-7 races in these playlists, and you win prizes by completing these races. For now, I encountered 5 Playlists in the closed beta version. I’ve played all but 1 of them. Because I don’t like the Porsche brand, it didn’t interest me much. First of all, I have to say that the 4 different Playlists I played are quite different and beautiful. Let’s go from my favorite to my least favorite.
First of all, I would like to start with the Playlist called Electric Oddysey. Since this Playlist was made exclusively for electric cars, I did not find it very enjoyable. We are trying to take our electric car from one point to another before the life bar of our vehicle is completely exhausted, that is, without crashing into the surroundings. The design of the environment is quite beautiful. But as I just said, I don’t like electric vehicles at all, so I’ll pass this place right away.
Another Playlist, called Hawaii Scenic Tour, introduces the whole island of Hawaii to us race lovers and offers beautiful races. Due to the beautiful and detailed inclusion of Hawaii in the game, the races we do in this mode seriously make us players feel in Hawaii. The landscapes are awesome.
On the other hand, another playlist that I like is called Vintage Garage, which takes us back to the past. This playlist based on old cars gave me a lot of pleasure. The change of the odometer on the left and the absence of a map on the right are nice details, as well as the addition of a yellowish filter that will make the player feel as if they are in Mexico, it was great and very enjoyable.
Now let’s come to the Playlist that raised me the most. In the playlist called Made in Japan, we drift together with Japanese vehicles and score points, we do 1v1 duels, we do drag races, street races, and so on. Since I like Japanese cars and Japanese theme very much, the fact that there is such a Playlist in this game impressed me a lot.
Besides all these, the main event that impressed me the most is the visuality of the street races in the Playlist. When I first saw it, I said no more, the reflections of neon-style lighting, the environmental design, everything is magnificent. I don’t remember experiencing such thematic visual pleasure in any racing game before.
Since they offered such playlists in the closed beta, who knows what we will see at the launch of the game. Already in the opening part of the game, the game gave us a taste of the playlists specific to the off road, formula and lamborghini brand. Let’s see, we’re waiting.
One of the most important parts of today’s games, in my opinion, is of course the graphics. Because we have now switched to the new generation consoles and as gamers we naturally care about visuality. Unfortunately, the graphics of Motorfest are not at the level of the next generation. But the reflections contained in the game are of higher quality than most racing games. But I can’t say that the graphics are very good in general terms.
Another thing I should especially mention is the map of the game in the menu. So it’s seriously flawless and something that hasn’t been seen before. The 3D map you know, and in this way, you can zoom in to where you want, and you can directly observe the parts of the entire map without experiencing any graphic drops. This is possible on ps5, but I don’t know how it will be on ps4. But I must say that I was very impressed.
The music of the game is weak compared to a racing game, especially after Need for Speed Unbound, it was pretty bad, I experienced the game on PlayStation 5 and I can say that Dualsense Support is interestingly excellent. The feeling of Haptic feedback while driving vehicles, especially boats, is tremendous. On the adaptive trigger side, l2, that is, the brake side is used a lot, but I cannot say the same for the gas side.
To sum it up, The Crew Motorfest was a very good racing game. Although the game is still in closed beta, it is full of unique content. When it is fully released on September 14, a much, much more full game will be with us. If you like racing games and other racing games on the market do not satisfy you in terms of content.
