From 2009 to 2022, Eden Lake was on the index in Germany because of its depiction of violence in the uncut version. The film features one of the most devastating endings in any horror film.
On August 4th, the strip will now also be released in Germany uncut with FSK18 approval as a media book in 4K/UHD and with normal Blu-ray and can, for example be ordered from Amazon*. Already available is also an uncut Limited Unrated Edition * on Blu-ray with SPIO/JK seal.
That’s what Eden Lake and the Mediabook offer
London couple Jenny (Kelly Reilly) and Steve (Michael Fassbender) just want to spend some relaxing time camping at idyllic Eden Lake, but instead of romance, the couple expects escalating trouble with local teenagers.
Initial provocations, which Steve does not want to be intimidated by, finally lead to brutal violence when the leader’s dog (Jack O’Connell) is killed in a scuffle. Thereupon the relentless teens do Hunt for the adults and stop at nothing.
The film was a critical success when it opened in 2008, which, apart from the violence, caused a controversy with its depiction of poorer sections of society, with the topic of youth increasingly being perceived as brutalized (via Hollywood Reporter). In Germany, meanwhile, the FSK release was only available for a version that was shortened by around 1:42 minutes.
