Hungary votes on Swedish NATO membership on Monday

Since the NATO meeting in Vilnius earlier in July, Hungary has confirmed that the country will say yes to Swedish membership.

Around the same time, a member of parliament in the country stated that Hungary may vote on Swedish NATO membership only in September, when political work resumes after the summer break.

Extraordinary meeting

The program item, which is requested by Speaker László Kövér, is therefore extra inserted and scheduled for 1 pm this Monday. If Hungary finally says yes, then only a yes from Turkey remains for Sweden to become a full member of NATO.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has recently said that the Turkish parliament can take a position on the issue only in October.
