The series “FIFA” by EA Sports (current part: FIFA 23) is known for working with problematic loot boxes that are reminiscent of gambling. This can become an addiction. On Twitter, a player now explains how he overcame his addiction to “FIFA Points”.
What is this addiction?
Player says addiction to FIFA points is ruining him
One player says: Twitter user SAF-Cal is a well-known figure in the FIFA scene. A user writes to him:
Player Advice: Realize that nothing in FIFA belongs to you
The experienced gambler gives him this advice: The veteran player tells him how he overcame his gambling addiction a few years ago (via twitter).
According to him, while FIFA Points are not legally a game of chance, they cause the exact same “ups and downs” that gamblers do. As an addict, one chases these heights without realizing how expensive and destructive this hunt is:
It sounds weird, but I overcame my FIFA Points addiction by reading EA’s Terms of Service. In them they explain: Although you spend money, you don’t own anything in the game: the cards, the coins, the consumables, everything in your club is just borrowed from EA. You can use it on their terms, but it’s not yours and never will be yours. EA can remove your access to this at any time without having to warn you or give you a reason.
The trader says that realization and the knowledge that after a year no one cares about the previous year’s cards has spoiled the fun of “FIFA Points”.
He then thought about how he could build good teams without having to spend silly money. As a result, he started trading cards within the game.
The player warns: There would be no protection with FIFA points. Buying these points can quickly get out of hand. He challenges people to break the cycle and pull themselves out of the cycle of ups and downs.
The tweet in which he gives his tips has already been viewed 3.4 million times within a day. He received almost 2,000 likes.
The satirist Jan Böhmermann also dealt with gambling in FIFA in a show:
