A number of villas had received packages and a letter, which according to the recipients could be perceived as threatening. They did not dare to open the packages.
“There are certainly certain words that people have reacted to, and it must be seen in the light of the general security situation,” says Jens Andersson, press spokesperson at the police.
The police went to the scene with several patrols.
— We open the packages, and they turn out to contain cookies. Then we also get hold of those who posted these notes and packages, says Andersson.
The letters’ message had been misinterpreted. The gifts were linked to the Muslim holiday of Ashura, which this year falls on July 28.
— It is a holiday where, as far as I understand, it is part of the celebration that you should be friendly, give gifts and so on. That has been the intention, says Jens Andersson.
The police do not suspect any crime in this connection.
— We obviously take it seriously when calls like this come in, given the security situation. But now it turned out not to be so dramatic, and it was nice, emphasizes Jens Andersson.
