With the comedy, Bully parodied the well-known Karl May film adaptations of the 1960s, which are mainly about the stories about the Apache chief Winnetou. In Manitou’s Shoe, this becomes Abahachi and his homosexual twin brother, Winnetouch, who plays Bully in a dual role.

Since its launch in 2001, Manitou’s Shoe has attracted visitors 11.7 million people to date to the movies. According to InsideKino, this makes the comedy the most popular German film of all time.
