(Finance) – One violent wave of bad weather hit northern Italy, from Lombardy to Veneto, from Trentino to Friuli Venezia Giulia. In Lombardy a ‘water bomb’ hit the Milanese area in the late morning, above all in the north-eastern area of the capital. No injuries were reported but there were floods, unroofed buildings, fallen trees and even a tornado between Cernusco sul Naviglio and Gessate. Phenomena that have required over 100 interventions by the firefighters. Bad weather and instability in the city continue in Milan and the orange alert, of moderate risk, issued by the Functional Risk Monitoring Center of the Lombardy Region has been confirmed for possible thunderstorms starting from tonight. The Municipal Civil Protection Operations Center will be active to monitor and coordinate any interventions.
Fallen trees and flooding also in Veneto. A phenomenon has sent the switchboards of the fire brigade into a tailspin due to the many dozens of requests for help that arrived simultaneously. In Vicenza there are currently 50 interventions pending, which mainly concern flooding and the fall of trees and cornices. Many floods were also reported in Rovigo, while a fallen tree interrupted traffic in Asiago (Vicenza) along the provincial road 128. In Schio, a heavy hailstorm destroyed crops and many car windscreens.
A new yellow weather alert was issued by the Civil Protection of Friuli Venezia Giulia due to thunderstorms, even strong and wind forecast in the next few hours. The notice is valid for today and tomorrow. “The approach of a trough from the Atlantic will cause the anticyclone to collapse – reads the bulletin released by the Civil Protection -. Very fast west-southwest currents will therefore flow into the region at high altitudes and at times cooler which will favor widespread instability. In particular, a front will pass over the region on Saturday”. “Possible showers and scattered thunderstorms that will develop several times, some of these may be strong, associated with possible strong gusts of wind or local hailstorms,” the bulletin continues. For Saturday 22 July, on the other hand, “unstable weather is forecast. During the day, scattered and intermittent showers and thunderstorms will be possible, some of these could be strong”.
Rain, gusts of wind and a violent hailstorm hit Trentino this morning where there is a yellow alert valid until midnight tomorrow issued by the Department of Civil Protection, Forests and Fauna of the Province. “The areas most affected by the bad weather in recent days were the Piana Rotaliana, the Val di Cembra, the Pinè plateau, the Val dei Mocheni, the Valsugana especially in the villages of Strigno, Scurelle, Spera, Telve di Sopra, and the lower Val Rendena, Priore, Villa Rendena and Riva del Garda. We are still assessing the damage in agriculture, but the good news is that no injuries have been reported”, explains the President of the Autonomous Province of Trento Maurizio Fugatti.
