At high speed, the radio controlled cars shoot across the track at Floridadreef in Utrecht. The winding, bumpy track is the backdrop for this week’s European Offroad Electric Championships. More than a hundred participants from twenty countries compete for the title. “It’s not the hobby that people associate it with,” says Raymond Houtman, chairman of the Dutch model car organization NOMAC. “This is a serious sport.”
