A chicken nugget fell on a child’s leg and burned – McDonald’s was sentenced to huge damages

A chicken nugget fell on a childs leg and burned

The family thinks the workers should have warned about the heat of the nuggets.

On Wednesday, the fast food giant McDonald’s was sentenced to pay 800,000 dollars, or about 720,000 euros, to an eight-year-old girl after she received serious burns from a chicken nugget that fell on her leg.

The decision was reported by, among others BBC and CNN.

The incident happened in 2019, when the child was four years old. The girl opened a children’s meal in the car, and a chicken nugget fell from the package onto her thigh. Nugetti burned the girl with second-degree burns, which have left a permanent scar on her leg.

The child’s parents feel that the restaurant’s employees should have warned about the heat of the nuggets.

The family demanded millions in damages

The family originally demanded compensation of 15 million dollars, or about 13.5 million euros, from the fast food giants.

However, McDonald’s only agreed to $156,000 in damages. It considered that the scar healed in about three weeks, after which the child’s pain stopped.

McDonald’s also used the fact that the girl still eats chicken nuggets in its restaurants.

The family has used, among other things, pictures of the girl’s injuries and a video of how the child screamed when the accident happened as evidence in court.

Compensation was awarded for pain, suffering and mental anguish. The court listed that $400,000 is compensation for the past four years and another $400,000 for the future.

The girl’s mother Philana Holmes has said that he is satisfied with the court’s decision.

– To be honest, I didn’t have high expectations, so this feels more than fair, he reportedly said in front of the courthouse.
