The largest German streamer talks about the future of Twitch: “It’s all too late”

Elias “EliasN97” Nerlich has been number 1 on German Twitch since 2022, but he has a lot to complain about in his streaming home. In a real talk he talked about the future of the platform.

What is the current situation on Twitch? Many streamers are currently dissatisfied with Twitch. The most common criticisms include:

Dan Clancy, then President of Twitch, became CEO of the company in March 2023. He had previously been accused of not being close to the streamers. Apparently he wants to work on that now.

He not only appeared as a guest in various streams, but also invited the German streamer EliasN97 to talk about the criticism of Twitch. The 25-year-old has now published a “real talk” on the future of the platform.

EliasN97 criticizes ban policy

How does he rate the conversation with the CEO? EliasN97 apparently thinks Twitch has ignored the abuses for too long. Although he praises the fact that the platform wants to work on itself and is looking for a conversation with streamers, he also says: “It’s all too late now.”

What bothers the EliasN97? The streamer explains two of his biggest criticisms. For one thing, Twitch Content Creator wouldn’t support enough at events. On the other hand, he criticizes the ban policy. The 25-year-old is not only concerned with the fear of being banned himself and suddenly losing an important source of income.

Because according to Twitch guidelines, it is also not allowed to appear together with a blocked streamer. For EliasN97, however, it would be out of the question not to stream together with his buddy Sidney Eweka should he be banned:

I have to keep doing something with them because we are running three companies together. I can’t just always say “it’s not”, that’s really sick.

German streaming landscape will change

How does he see the future of Twitch? As the streamer Reved recently announced, the German streaming scene is currently in a state of upheaval. EliasN97 wasn’t allowed to reveal too much, but he did provide some interesting information.

He confirmed that many streamers are currently considering a change. However, they would rather not go to a pre-existing platform. So it doesn’t seem like there’s going to be a big wave of switching to controversial Twitch competitor Kick.

At the same time, however, EliasN97 also clears up the persistent rumors about online TV provider Joyn’s own streaming platform: To his knowledge, there will be no such platform.

In the next few years, the 25-year-old believes that the streamers will spread out more. YouTube also wants to attack again, according to EliasN97. So it seems like several platforms want to saw the throne of Twitch. There will not be one platform that everyone goes to.

In the end, however, it’s always about one thing: “A very big point is of course coal,” says the streamer. So far, however, there have been no big offers for him. It is questionable whether EliasN97 will stay on Twitch. The 25-year-old hints that he is “not with any existing ones [Seite] at the beginning”.

A recording of the stream is available on YouTube.

EliasN97 himself makes no secret of the fact that money plays a big role for him when it comes to streaming. He now wants to work hard and grind for a few years so that he can eventually enjoy a relaxed retirement.
