Robert Downey Jr. explains why he wants to remake one of the best films of all time after Oppenheimer

Robert Downey Jr explains why he wants to remake one

After his Iron Man exit in the MCU, Robert Downey Jr. is ready for the new phase of his career. At the moment everything looks like the star will be back as Character actors in more challenging roles wants to perform. For example, he wants to prove himself in the new Christopher Nolan blockbuster Oppenheimer.

In addition, Downey Jr. also has his own film production company, with which he wants to realize, among other things, a remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s masterpiece Vertigo. Now he has revealed the reason why.

Robert Downey Jr. wants to direct Vertigo remake because of traumatic experience

As reported by our sister site Espinof, the New York Times interview also asked the Marvel star if he still wants to direct the Vertigo remake. Downey Jr. says the project is still in the pipeline and gives more details on why:

I’ve climbed rocks before and got stuck in this panicky state, and if it wasn’t so embarrassing I would have asked to be taken off that rock. I lost confidence in my positioning, the fall seemed too high, my body reacted.

Downey Jr. also wants to portray this feeling of panic, which Hitchcock also takes up in places in Vertigo, in his new edition of the classic:

It wasn’t about fight or flight; it was freezing cold and I was about to faint. I’ll never forget it, and it made me think that there are cinematic devices that haven’t been fully explored that I think would provide an experience of trying to say, ‘How does it feel to be mentally paralyzed to be afraid of something that should be manageable?’ That could be entertaining. This is what Alfred Hitchcock’s original Vertigo is about. The 1958 milestone revolves around police officer Scottie (James Stewart), who has a fear of heights and is hired by a former school friend whose wife Madeleine (Kim Novak) to shadow. This should be possessed by the ghost of her grandmother, who took her own life at the age of 26. Madeleine also falls into San Francisco Bay and the protagonist just manages to save her. Scottie falls in love with the stranger, but that’s only where the problems begin.

It is not yet known when Robert Downey Jr.’s Vertigo remake will be filmed or released. If the project can be realized after the current Hollywood double strike, we do not expect a theatrical release before 2025.
