As with your PlayStation 4 console, your DualShock 4 can also connect to your Android device as a Bluetooth device.
Many of our favorite Android games offer controller support that lets you bypass subtle touchscreen controls with the reliability of physical joysticks and triggers. However, while there are many great Android compatible controllers available, you may want to use a controller you already have.
How do you connect the DualShock 4 to your Android device via Bluetooth?
Your Dualshock 4 wireless controller is compatible with your Android phone or tablet and is a versatile option that offers Bluetooth and wired connections. We’ll show you how to connect your PS4 controller to your Android device and fix common problems.
As with your PlayStation 4 console, your DualShock 4 can also connect to your Android device as a Bluetooth device. If you have an iPhone or iPad, you can also connect your PS4 controller via Bluetooth.
- Press and hold the PS and Share buttons of your DualShock 4 together, then wait until the flashing white light bar appears on the back.
- Open your Android phone’s Settings app.
- Search for “Bluetooth” in the search bar of your Settings app and open the Bluetooth menu.
- Tap Pair new device.
- Tap DualShock 4 from the list of available devices.
If your PlayStation 4 controller is not visible, check your Bluetooth settings and see if the controller is already connected to your device. The gamepad will eventually exit pairing mode, so don’t spend too much time with your Android phone. Press and hold the PS button to turn off your controller.
How do you connect the DualShock 4 to your Android device via USB?
Connecting your DualShock 4 to your Android device via USB means a more reliable connection, but your phone will drain its battery faster. However, the cable that came with your DualShock 4 controller is not compatible with your Android device’s USB-C port. You will need a USB-A/USB-C adapter or a USB-C to Micro-USB cable. Once you plug it in, you’re ready to play. No installation required.
What else can I do with the DualShock 4?
Your DualShock 4 controller is a great Android controller, but it can do a lot more than just act as a general Android gamepad. If you have a PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 4, you can access your console from anywhere using the PS Remote Play app (only available for Android 10 and above). This app lets you play games with the full functionality of your DualShock 4 controller.
You can also use your controller to navigate your device, but we recommend doing this only in an emergency.
Play mobile games with your DualShock 4 controller
Sony’s DualShock 4 is a great controller and can make mobile gaming a whole lot more fun. Your controller is also compatible with Apple’s iOS devices, including refrigerators. There isn’t a great Android game though. Our compilation of the best Android games will give you hours of fun no matter what your favorite playstyle.
