NHL star Gabriel Landeskog’s super buy – now joins one of the world’s most classic football teams

Gabriel Landeskog is one of the NHL’s biggest stars.
Now he invests – in a completely different sport.
The Swede is one of many sports stars who buys up a classic club to say the least.

Gabriel Landeskog hasn’t played a hockey game in the NHL for a long time. He has suffered a serious injury and during the spring there were even worrying questions about whether he will be able to get back on the ice at all.

Joins the storied club

However, Landeskog is determined to make a comeback, but he had to sit out the entire previous NHL season, after leading his Colorado Avalanche to the Stanley Cup in the spring of 2022. Landeskog is one of the NHL’s best players and leaders, and his absence is devastating for Colorado. But next to the hockey itself, the Swedish star is now involved in exciting things.

Leeds United is one of England’s and the world’s most storied clubs, but left the Premier League in the spring. Now they are carrying out a change of ownership – and then Gabriel Landeskog is included as one of the owners. It is the investment company 49ers Enterprises, which, among other things, owns the NFL team San Francisco 49ers, which bought up the classic club.

Several stars included

The company has owned 44 percent of Leeds for some years now, but now they are buying up additional shares and thus becoming the majority owner – and Gabriel Landeskog is included in the investment. However, Landeskog is not the only sports star who now owns a part of Leeds. His former teammate Erik Johnson is said to be in attendance, as is Olympic legend Michael Phelps.

In the past, golf stars Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas have also visited England and the duo is also involved in the deal. How much money Gabriel Landeskog pumps in to become a part owner in Leeds is not clear. Landeskog has so far earned around 600 million kroner during his NHL career, and his current contract gives him another 450 million kroner, in rounds, until 2029.
