Macron keeps her at Matignon for how long

Elisabeth Borne will keep her post as Prime Minister after the reshuffle, while Emmanuel Macron will speak “by the end of the week”.

[Mis à jour le 17 juillet 2023 à 20h54] According to information disclosed by Le Figaro this Monday, July 17, Emmanuel Macron will keep Élisabeth Borne at Matignon after the reshuffle, which should take place by the end of the week. This confirmation comes as his new chief of staff, Jean-Denis Combrexelle, was announced on Monday morning and was validated by the Élysée. He then officiated as director of cabinet of Éric Dupond-Moretti. According to the President of the Republic, “the objective of the hundred days has been met and calm has returned”. But above all, the Head of State wishes “ensure stability and substantive work”.

However, for a few months, the fate of Elisabeth Borne was not played. Rumors arose of his replacement by the current Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, who had “campaigned” in this direction. Another name came up often, that of Julien Denormandie, former deputy chief of staff of Emmanuel Macron, when the latter was Minister of the Economy.

As soon as it was confirmed, Elisabeth Borne said she wanted “adjustments” for his government. According to BFMTV, she will propose them to the President of the Republic “this week”. It remains to be seen how long the Prime Minister will remain in office. Even if Emmanuel Macron has, on several occasions, recalled his support for Élisabeth Borne, we know that relations between the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister are sometimes quite tense.
