“We want to be the best MMORPG coming out in 2023”

The MMORPG Ares: Rise of Guardians is scheduled to be released later this year by the publisher Kakao Games. In an interview, the developers now reveal interesting details and big plans. We at MeinMMO summarize.

What kind of game is Ares? The MMORPG comes from the successful publisher Kakao Games (ArcheAge, Odin: Valhalla Rising) and the development team of Second Dive. It is based on a science fiction world and its appearance is reminiscent of titles like Destiny or Anthem.

You are mainly in different combat suits, which are currently divided into four classes. You travel and fight with them on Earth, the Moon or even Mars. Other planets are to follow in the future.

So far, over 2 million people have pre-registered for the game. At least in Korea, it is scheduled to be released on July 25, 2023. A release in other regions of the world is planned, but will not take place at the same time.

Apart from that, Ares: Rise of Guardians wants to score with the following features:

  • Cross-play on PC and smartphones, with the PC getting its own launcher
  • Fast and extensive movement system, which also includes flying and combat in the air
  • Randomized events in the open world
  • Raids for up to 30 players
  • Various vehicles that you should be able to use in the world
  • Even in the Korean market, Pay2Win is said to be greatly reduced, the game should be a lot of fun even without spending money
  • The MMORPG also scores with strong graphics and unusual classes

    New interview shows that the developers have high hopes for Ares

    What new information is there? In an interview with the Korean press, the developers answered questions. There was some new information that could both fuel hope and make Western players skeptical.

    Particularly interesting was the question of what financial result the publisher would hope for from Ares. To this, Kakao CEO Lee Si Woo replies: “It’s hard to say anything about the planned results, but our goal is to release the best MMORPG in 2023”.

    A statement later, however, he made it clear that we in the West would probably have to be patient. The plans for globalization will only be tackled once the game is successful in Korea: “The domestic market comes first,” emphasizes Woo in the interview.

    Also, some fans may not like the fact that an auto-play feature was also confirmed during the conversation. The developers emphasize at this point, however, that there is still more than enough content that requires manual input and strong interaction between players.

    What else is positive? Aside from the strong statement of wanting to publish the best MMORPG of this year, there is still some information that stands out positively. The developers report that the game has changed a lot since the 2022 tests.

    They emphasize that the feedback from the fans is listened to and that, among other things, the controls with the mouse and keyboard have been improved and optimized.

    Furthermore, convenience features have been added, such as turning off other players’ effects. The developers explain that they want to keep the colorful and eye-catching look of the skills without jeopardizing the balance in big battles.
