This is what Russian President Vladimir Putin says in an interview with Russian state television published on Sunday.
The statement comes after Ukraine received cluster munitions from the US – a controversial weapon because the bombs can cause heavy casualties to civilians.
— If they are used against us, we reserve the right to take countermeasures, says Vladimir Putin.
He adds that Russia has not yet used the weapons despite a “certain shortage of ammunition at some point”.
However, several organizations – including the UN, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch – have determined that both Russia and Ukraine have already used cluster bombs in the war.
Over 120 states, including Sweden, have signed an international agreement against the use, transfer, production and stockpiling of cluster bombs.
