Emergency services continue to search for survivors and the dead in the road tunnel in South Korea that flooded on Saturday.
More than 30 people have died, several are missing and thousands have been evacuated after the heavy rain caused floods and landslides in South Korea.
Rescue work is still ongoing to reach about 15 cars in a 430-meter-long road tunnel that flooded in the city of Cheongju. According to South Korean authorities, at least seven people have been found dead in a bus that got stuck in the tunnel.
Nine people have been rescued, but it is unclear how many are in the tunnel.
Almost 400 people are on site to search the road tunnel. Including divers.
Thousands have been forced to evacuate
According to a spokesperson for the North Chungcheong Province Emergency Services, it may take several hours to pump out all the water. He says there is still four to five meters of water in the tunnel, which is also filled with mud and rubble.
The heavy rainy weather has been ongoing in South Korea since July 9 and has led to the death of more than 30 people. Around 6,000 people have been forced to evacuate and over 27,000 households have been without electricity for several days, according to information from the Ministry of the Interior.
And it’s not over yet. South Korea’s weather service warns that the rain is expected to continue over parts of the country.
