Baldur’s Gate 3 has been in Early Access since 2020. So if you want, you can buy and play the game at any time. In the latest community update, however, the developers absolutely advise against it: it’s no longer of any use. You are even risking your gaming fun.
How can I play Baldur’s Gate 3 now?
What’s in Early Access? In the current version of Baldur’s Gate 3 on Steam, you can only play the first act of the game. However, you can already choose from all previously known races and the 12 classes presented.
With the characters, however, you do not yet have the opportunity to play one of the “Origins”. These are the characters with a prescribed story. You have to create your own character. In the editor you can play with the customization options like appearance and backgrounds.
Most of the content is still missing in the game. Even the first act is not yet complete in Early Access, as the developers explain in the latest community update. And they also say clearly: if you only want to play now, you should stop.
Developers Advice: “Don’t Buy Early Access Version of Baldur’s Gate 3”

If you still decide to buy Baldur’s Gate 3 now to experiment a little, you will at least get the pre-order bonuses. The Early Access is equated with a pre-order, but also costs the same.
You will then get an exclusive skin for your in-game dice, some content based on the Divinity series, the soundtrack and character sheets for Dungeons & Dragons. Those who prefer to wait can play the full version on PC from August 3rd, on PS5 from September 6th.
