Barbie fever ahead of next week’s Sweden premiere

The new Barbie movie with Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in the lead roles has its Swedish premiere in a week. The film has already received a lot of attention worldwide.
– Barbie means something to many generations, says Caroline Hainer, cultural journalist and film critic.

At the same time as the cinema premiere is approaching, the hashtag “barbiecore” is trending on Tiktok with several hundred million views. It has been doing that since last year, when images from the filming began to leak.

– There were a lot of people in the fashion industry at the time who said that “now we’re going to have fun and just explode in color and fun”. And a really strong shock pink it is, says Caroline Hainer.

According to Caroline Hainer, Barbiecore means dressing in strong pink colors in a feminine, “Barbie-defined” way – both girlish and ladylike at the same time.

“Ultra Feminine”

– There is something very funny about the color pink in general and also this about barbiecore, because partly it is ultra-feminine, so it is possible to dress almost as a joke but also to push these gender boundaries and have fun with the.

The trend has also been seen among several famous people, both in women and men.

– Perhaps this means that you can challenge an image that has existed in the past about femininity and that you don’t take gender so seriously. Hopefully it means that anyway.

The film premieres in Sweden on July 21.
