Fight in Kosovo’s parliament – the prime minister had water thrown on him

It was when the Prime Minister was giving a speech at the rostrum that a member of an opposition party came forward with a water bottle and threw water over him. After the incident, other members rushed up to the podium and fights broke out.

Kosovo President Glauk Konjufca calls the violence “unacceptable” and says that “the use of violence is punishable”, according to Reuters.

The incident occurred after three days of debate in parliament over an audio recording between a party member from Kurti’s party and a Kosovo Serb member of parliament. In the recording, the party member is said to say that she spoke with Kosovar Serb Milan Radojcic, against whom the United States imposed sanctions due to organized crime and corruption – and who is wanted by the Kosovo authorities.

In northern Kosovo, the already tense situation has intensified since Kosovo Albanians became mayors after elections in April, which many Kosovo Serbs boycotted, Reuters reports. Kosovo’s population consists of roughly 90 percent Kosovo Albanians and approximately 5 percent Kosovo Serbs.
