WoW is down – emergency maintenance after patch makes long faces [Update]

World of Warcraft is currently offline. Patch 10.1.5 caused problems – and Blizzard had to react. The realms are offline.

Update 6:20 p.m.: The realms are back online and World of Warcraft is accessible again.

Original message: “Never play on patch day” is an ancient rule that first generation WoW fans still know. Patch 10.1.5: Cracks in Time shows that this rule is still valid today. The update went live today, July 12th, 2023 and brought a new mega dungeon “Dawn of the Eternals” as well as a lot of other content.

However, there were also many problems. They were so strong that Blizzard now has to do emergency maintenance.

What’s going on in WoW? The servers are currently completely offline since 2 p.m. So you can’t play WoW at the moment.

When will the realms come back online? This is unknown. Blizzard hasn’t given a timeline, so it could still be a few hours. As a rule, however, this maintenance always ends quite “spontaneously” and usually only lasts a few hours. We’ll update this article when the realms come back online.

What were the mistakes? Even though some bugs were fixed earlier with hotfixes, patch 10.1.5 caused quite a bit of chaos. Some of the errors were something like:

  • Players could single-handedly clear Mythic+ at high levels in a matter of minutes. A bug with the scaling caused strange results.
  • The micro menu is the wrong size.
  • The “Delete Character” feature is buggy and sometimes deletes the wrong character.
  • Some of the new Action Bar animations do not work on macros.
  • Some characters are stuck in nirvana and are “unavailable” when logging in or get the message “world server not found”.
