According to the UN migration agency IOM, the fighting in Sudan in recent months has driven around 3.1 million people to flee their homes, AP reports.
Most of them have fled to safer areas in Sudan and over 700,000 people have sought refuge in neighboring countries, most in Egypt and Chad.
Most of those who have fled, 72 percent, come from the capital Khartoum, and 9 percent come from the Darfur region, where the fighting has been fiercest.
In mid-April, fighting broke out between the government army in Sudan and their former allies in the RSF militia, and at least 3,000 people have since been killed. Several cease-fires have been concluded, but broken after a short time.
This weekend, the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, warned in a statement that Sudan is on the brink of “a full-scale civil war”.
