Shopping cheap seems to attract the Danes.
A weak Swedish krona has made Sweden a great bargain paradise for our neighboring country.
– The Danes really want to cross the Kattegat right now, says Ulf Staaf, commercial manager at Stena Line.
Not just one, but several ships arrive loaded every day at the port of Gothenburg – filled with Danes. And our neighbors to the south seem to have their spender pants on when they step ashore.
– We are going shopping in Nordstan. There will be clothes and sweets, says one of the Danish travelers, Lars Olsen, who is in Gothenburg on a day trip.
At the shipping company Stena Line, the classic summer traveler is usually the Swedish family with children who are going to Europe by car. But in the first half of this year, the number of Danish passengers who want to go north has increased by 36 percent, compared to last year.
– Mainly it depends on the exchange rate, which gives the opportunity for the shopping part. But we also see a changed travel pattern where people travel more in their immediate area, says Ulf Staaf, commercial manager at Stena Line.
“Increasing Danish traffic”
In recent months, the local area also increasingly seems to include places like Ullared for the Danes.
– We are actually increasing Danish traffic by 70 percent compared to last year, in and of itself from low volumes, but it is nice that Danes are finding their way here to a much greater extent, says Gekås CEO Patrik Levin.
Anette Rishöj, another traveler from Denmark, does not intend to come here just once this summer. She is already planning her next trip to Sweden.
– In two weeks we will come here again, then we will stay one night in Gothenburg and then drive on to Lidköping.
