In France, while an asylum and immigration bill is to be examined by Parliament next fall, more and more French people are calling for the holding of a citizens’ convention on migration, on the model of the two previous ones, on the climate in 2020 and on the end of life, at the beginning of the year. The principle is to entrust nearly 180 citizens drawn by lot and representative of society with the holding of a democratic debate and the conclusion of concrete measures. Associations, researchers, elected officials, ordinary citizens, through a petition, embarked on a campaign months ago and hope to see the fruits of it very soon.
