Eleven people are stuck in the SkyView ride at Globen after the power outage that hit Stockholm on Sunday afternoon. Now staff are up at the top to help the people down.
– They have gone up with personnel who are trained to evacuate, says Daniel Stålbo, marketing director at Stockholm Live.
It was just after half past four on Sunday afternoon that around 12,000 households suffered a power outage in Stockholm. The outage mainly affected households on Södermalm and in other parts of southern Stockholm.
At 4:30 p.m., the electricity company Ellevio announced that it had fixed the error, which it says was due to a broken component in the electricity network.
Left on top of the Globe
But there are still eleven people on top of the Globe who are now about to be evacuated. According to Daniel Stålbo, the gondola that is still rolling after the power cut will go up to the top, and then allow the people to be evacuated with harnesses from the gondola that is standing still.
– We don’t know who is working on this and who are passengers, but we know that it is an ongoing rescue effort, says TV4 Nyheternas reporter Filippa Fernqvist, who is on the ground below the Globe.
– You can see in the picture how they put on the harness and walk away towards the other gondola to then get down, she says.
It is not the first time that one of the gondolas has stopped. 13 years ago, 15 people had to be evacuated from one of the glass-enclosed cabins, and in 2011 both gondolas stopped.
