Swedes on holiday in Spain can have a tough time.

Next week it could be over 45 degrees there.

– We follow what is happening and inform our passengers, says Claes Pellvik, communications manager at Ving.

Next week, the heat is expected to rise considerably in Spain.

In the southern and southwestern regions, the temperature is expected to be well above 40 degrees.

– Early next week it can be locally between 40 and 44 degrees, says Anna Latvala, meteorologist at Foreca.

In Seville, for example, a local record is expected to be taken as the mercury is expected to rise to 46.7 degrees, according to The Spanish Weather Institute.

The Spanish weather agency Aemet calls the high temperatures “remarkable”.

– We suffer from heat waves and they are becoming more common and more extreme. We are trying to make people understand that it will only get worse, says Ruben del Campo from Spain’s weather agency Aemet, to CGTN.

They also warn that the weather could become more extreme and a red warning has been issued in some parts of the country.

Extreme heat in several countries

It is not only in Spain that the heat will hit hard. It will be sweaty in several places in Southern Europe next week.

– For example, in Sardinia it will be over 40 degrees. The same applies in several places in Italy locally. Then it can get a little bit colder. On Friday and Saturday, the warm winds continue east towards Greece, says meteorologist Anna Latvala at Forecast.

Those who are not used to this heat should take it carefully in direct sunlight, says Anna Latvala.

– It is good to try to stay inside, where there is air conditioning, during the hottest hours. In the afternoon you should stay in the shade, says Latvala.

Urges Swedes to stay updated

Claes Pellvik, communications manager at Ving, urges all Swedes on site to stay up to date on what is happening and follow the recommendations.

– On such occasions, we inform our guests in the area about how to think. For example, staying in the shade and not going out during the day when it’s hottest, he says.

The heat wave will mainly affect the southern and southwestern regions. Pellvik says that most Swedes travel to the Canary Islands and Mallorca.

– There are no forecasts that it will be as hot there. We feel no concern. We have good experience with heat waves at this time of year in the Mediterranean area and it has always worked well.

Ruben del Campo says that the warm temperatures are expected to last for some time to come.

– Even though there may be a slight drop in temperature next week, it will still be very hot, he says.
