(Finance) – “The Bolzano station is a necessary work to integrate the station into the urban fabric and encourage intermodal exchange”, stated theCEO of RFI, Gianpiero Strisciuglio at the end of the meeting with the working group for the Bolzano area.
“RFI is already in motion to equip the station with the best technologies. The implementation of the new control system has already started and will be available in the first quarter of 2026, but the feasibility project for the area will already be completed by next March which will have to be carried out together with the feasibility project for the Bolzano ring road. On the basis of these studies, it will then be possible to plan the financing of the work”, he concluded Squeeze who met today with the governor of the province on the subject Arno Kompatscherthe provincial councilor Daniel Alfrediderthe mayor and the deputy mayor of the Municipality of Bolzano, Renzo Caramaschi and Luis Walcher.
The project of the Area initially envisaged of assign, through a tender at European level, the entire area to a single investor who would have been responsible for the modernization of the railway infrastructure and the construction of the public structures envisaged by the master plan drawn up 10 years ago. Investment costs which he would then have recovered through building rights on areas not occupied by railway infrastructure.
In consideration of the complexity of the work, the Province of South Tyrol, the Municipality of Bolzano and the FS Group companies involved have agreed that the intervention will be carried out by RFI for the infrastructural part and coordinated by FS Sistemi Urbani for the part of urban regeneration. The areas that become available will instead be purchased directly by the Province of Bolzano and developed gradually.
The first phase of the project will be related to the railway infrastructure and will include not only the station itself, but also platforms and workshops. Particular attention will be paid, in this phase, to the networking of the various forms of mobility, such as the train, the bus and the bicycle. In the following phases, the urban development phase will take place with the integration of public and private functions, from social and private residence to new commercial activities.
During the meeting, theAD Strisciuglio recalled RFI’s commitment to the local area: “we are moving forward with an investment plan for Trentino Alto Adige of over 8.5 billion, of which around 2 are under construction in the province of Bolzano. The goal is to strengthen the connections between the various modes of transport for an ever more integrated and sustainable mobility.In consideration also of the strong increase in traffic, we intend to shift a portion to rail, thanks to the opening of the Brenner Base Tunnel and the related access sections.
Umberto Lebruto, CEO of FS Sistemi Urbaniunderlined how “the agreements signed in 2019 and 2022 are evidence of the Group’s commitment to regenerate and enhance the large portion of the territory of the railway area, giving back to the city an important portion of the urban fabric hitherto occupied by the rail bundle” .
