The woman lay dead in her partner’s freezer for five years.
Now he gives his explanation for why she was never buried.
– It spilled out into the sand, says the man’s defense lawyer Stefan Liliebäck.
The suspect, who is aged 55, was hospitalized in March. In connection with that, he said that he kept his dead partner in his freezer at home.
When the woman’s body was found, the man was arrested and since then he has been in custody, suspected of breaching the peace and serious breach of peace.
But how the woman died is still unknown. After the autopsy was completed, suspicions of murder were dropped. According to the man’s defense lawyer, Stefan Liliebäck, the woman was allegedly found dead in the couple’s bed in January 2018.
The suspect himself has stated that he believes she died of cancer.
– He found her dead and put her in the freezer so she wouldn’t rot, says Stefan Liliebäck.
“Would be buried on the farm”
To NWT, who first reported it and who also spoke with the defense attorney, says the man and woman shared a desire that their funerals not be associated with the church.
– They didn’t want to be buried in a public burial ground, but actually on the farm. So he put her in the freezer in order to bury her in the grounds at a later stage, says Stefan Liliebäck.
Why wasn’t she buried?
– It ran out into the sand. He has no further explanation, says Stefan Liliebäck.
Charges are expected this week
The couple previously lived in Norway before moving to Sweden. They must then have kept a lot to themselves. But both neighbors and the woman’s relatives reacted when the woman stopped being seen in the area.
Her relatives have since tried to get in touch with her, but to no avail. A few years ago, the woman was finally reported missing.
During the spring, he was also served with suspicions of gross fraud.
– The fraud consists in the suspect having access to the plaintiff’s accounts and thereby taking part of the pension that came into her accounts. The crime is to be assessed as serious because it was systematic and intended for a significant value, approximately SEK 1,300,000, prosecutor Linda Karlsson has previously said.
The indictment is expected to come this week. How the man will respond to the suspicions of fraud is not yet clear.
– I am now thinking about how to portray some attitude on his part, I have not decided yet, says Stefan Liliebäck.
