It was around half past four on Saturday night that the police were alerted to a break-in at the church in Grästorp. Two men had gotten in by breaking a window, inside they threw various objects, sprayed fire extinguishers and also set off the church bells.
– It feels sad that you don’t have a feeling for the sacred, says substitute vicar Thomas Hallin.
But they also left a message in the church’s guest book before leaving the church dressed in priest’s clothes playing a bongo drum.
Watch the vicar show the guest book and the destruction in the church – in the clip.
“The church could have burned”
In addition to that, parish priest Thommy Hallin says that the thieves had lit one or more candles during the break-in. This was noticed during the night by a neighbor who went over to the church and turned off the lights.
– If it had gotten really bad, the church would have even started to burn, he says.
