Another first in Germany! Far-right AfD candidate elected mayor

AfD candidate Hannes Loth won the election in Raguhn-Jessnitz, a small town in the state of Saxony-Anhalt, making it the first time an AfD politician has been elected mayor.

Loth received 51 percent of the votes in the election, where there were approximately 8,000 voters and the turnout rate was 61 percent. It was stated that Loth was also a member of the State of Saxony-Anhalt.

BECOME THE FIRST EXTREME RIGHT GOVERNOR

Robert Sesselmann, the first AfD governor in Germany, also won the election last week in the Sonneberg town of Thuringia. In the polls, the AfD’s vote share in Germany is around 20 percent.

AS A ‘SUSPECTED CASE’…

The AfD’s state structure is classified by the Thuringian State Department for the Protection of the Constitution as “absolutely right-wing”, while the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution classifies it as a “suspicious case”. (AA)
