Several climate activists ran on Sunday into the indoor field during the Bauhausgalan athletics competition at Stockholm’s stadium.
– It is completely idiotic and reprehensible, says the Norwegian world star Karsten Warholm in SVT’s broadcast.
Three activists from “Restore the Wetlands” sabotaged the men’s 400 meter hurdles at the evening’s Bauhaus Gala when they sat over the course and held up a banner.
Norwegian world star Karsten Warholm was one of the runners affected.
– When I saw that there was some kind of protest, I was pissed off. Damn it, I’m just saying – it’s completely useless, he says to SVT.
Reported to the police
Competition leader Jan Kowalski tells TT that they have taken the identities of the activists and that they will report the incident to the police.
– Here we prepare for a whole year and then they run in and sabotage. We don’t think that kind of illegal violations belong here. It is very sad that they destroy a competition in this way, says Kowalski.
The activists were booed by the crowd and could be seen being led out of the arena by security personnel.
