At 4 pm on Thursday, the alarm came that a seven-year-old and a mother had fallen from a ferry between Gdynia and Karlskrona.
A large rescue operation started with both NATO ships, airplanes and helicopters. At 17.30 it was announced that both had been found and taken to hospital in Karlskrona. On Friday, word came that they had died. The Swedish Public Prosecutor’s Office then started a preliminary investigation into murder.
The Swedish preliminary investigation continues
On Saturday, Polish authorities announced that they had also started a criminal investigation, which according to Polish media concerned murder and suicide, something that BLT was the first to tell about. It was unclear at first what this meant for the Swedish preliminary investigation. Normally, a case with the Public Prosecutor’s Office is closed if it is transferred to another country, according to the authorities themselves.
But now the Swedish Public Prosecutor’s Office replies that the preliminary investigation here continues.
– There is a preliminary investigation in Sweden and it is open. We have not formally handed it over to Poland, but they have also opened a preliminary investigation in parallel. But the preliminary investigation in Sweden continues, says Karin Rosander, who is director of communications at the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
Awaiting response from autopsy
