The attraction Jetline is 35 years old and manufactured by German Zierer.

Now the company is speaking out for the first time.

– We are of course at the disposal of all actors who investigate the case and contribute with the information we have, says Marina Ernst-Weiderer at Zierer.

35 years ago, the Jetline roller coaster was installed in Gröna Lund. The manufacturer is German Zierer, which is also behind the Lisebergbahn at Liseberg and several other attractions.

On Sunday, it came to a sudden halt when the Jetline derailed and passengers were injured and a 35-year-old woman died.

Compared to the world’s oldest roller coaster – 121-year-old Leap the Dips in the US – Jetline is still young. But with its 35 years, it is still one of the oldest in Sweden.

Refers to statement

The manufacturer Zierer states that they cooperate with Gröna Lund and that they have not heard from the Accident Commission’s investigation yet.

– We have been informed that an investigation is underway. But have not been contacted by any local authority, says Marina Ernst, marketing manager at Zierer.

They refer to a written statement.

After expressing “sympathy with all those affected”, German manufacturer Zierer writes that Jetline was manufactured 35 years ago and that “Jetline’s construction and technical design are not comparable to today’s roller coasters”.

Manufacturing today therefore looks different and today’s attractions from Zierer meet, according to the company itself, “the highest safety standards”.

In addition, the attractions are tested by and subject to inspections carried out by the organization TÜV. There, they don’t think that Jetline is unusually old.

– There are significantly more roller coasters in the world that are much older than 35 years, says Maurice Shahd who is a press spokesperson at TÜV.

Maintenance requirements must be met

Zierer further writes in the statement that there is currently no cause for concern:

“All Zierer roller coasters can continue to be used without a doubt, provided that the general maintenance requirements are met.”

The German security firm TÜV’s spokesperson agrees:

– Age is not the deciding factor. What is important is that they are maintained, says Maurice Shahd.

Zierer has also manufactured the Lisebergbahn, which was closed on Thursday due to “technical maintenance”.

– It’s nothing I know about, says Marina Ernst, marketing director at Zierer.

Jetline closed for the rest of the summer

Gröna Lund has decided to close Jetline for the rest of the summer.

“It can stand until the accident commission’s report is ready,” says Christer Fogelmarck, CEO of the amusement park’s owner Parks and Resorts to Sveriges Radio.

An investigation that can take up to a year.

Aftonbladet has contacted Zierer’s business management, who do not want to answer any more questions at the moment.
