Lucrative, the Final Fantasy license has had its ups and downs, and continues to want to systematically renew itself. Proof of this is with Final Fantasy XVI which dares to make the big difference with its original DNA. It passes or it passes and we must admit that this new direction has been beneficial, since the first sales figures speak for themselves. No less than 3 million copies sold in three days of operation, the adventures of Clive Rosfield were expected to say the least. A success also present in Japan, his country of origin, yet more inclined to favor the J-RPG rather than the beat’em all à la Devil May Cry. For the week of June 19-25, it’s reported that 336,027 physical copies of the game were sold, numbers that don’t take digital sales into account. So for comparison with previous Final Fantasy games, it’s quite low (generally, we cross 2 million sales in the first days in Japan), but we have to put the period into perspective and understand that compared to games like Resident Evil 4 Remake and Elden Ring is 3 times more. It remains to be seen now if this success will be held over time.
We’re delighted to announce we’ve shipped and digitally sold 3 million copies of Final Fantasy XVI on PlayStation 5. Thank you for your support! #FF16 pic.twitter.com/8YGfo1RXyV
