(Tiper Stock Exchange) – Employment growth continues in Italy: in May they were created 21 thousand more jobs (+0.1%) compared to the previous month, bringing the total number of employed people to 23 million 471 thousand. The employment rate rises to 61.2% (+0.1 points). (+0.1 points).
The largest increases in employment are recorded among men, the self-employed, young people under 35 and those aged at least 50, while they decrease among women, temporary employees, the very young (15-24 years) and 35-49 year olds .
The number of job seekers decreases, marking a drop of 34 thousand units (-1.7%) compared to the previous month and the unemployment rate total drops to 7.6% (-0.1 points), while that of young people rises to 21.7% (+0.9 points).
The inactive ones were substantially stable – between 15 and 64 years old – with an inactivity rate that remains unchanged at 33.7%. Inactivity increases more among men and those under 35 and increases among women and among those aged 35 or over.
Comparing the quarter March-May 2023 with the previous one (December 2022-February 2023), a increase of 120,000 employees (+0.5%), which is associated with a decrease of the unemployed by 33 thousand units (-1.6%) and the number of inactive people of 74 thousand (-0.6%).
Compared to May 2022 there are 383 thousand more employed (+1.7%), due to the increase in permanent and self-employed employees which more than offset the decrease in temporary employees. The employment rate, which overall is up by 1.1 percentage points to 61.2%.
Again compared to May 2022, decreases both the number of people looking for work (-4.8%, equal to -98 thousand units) and the number of inactive people aged between 15 and 64 (-2.7%, equal to -351 thousand). The unemployment rate drops to 7.6%, while the inactivity rate stands at 33.7%.
