Thousands of protesters are expected at the Swedish embassy in Iraq’s capital, Baghdad, today Friday. Deputy head of the Finnish mission Anna Malinen told about it in an interview with aam.

Protesters stormed the Swedish embassy in Baghdad yesterday Thursday. The embassies of Finland and Norway are also in the same building. Attempts were also made to penetrate them.

According to Malinen, today’s demonstration is going to be significantly bigger than yesterday, because yesterday there were only about a hundred demonstrators.

According to Malinen, the protesters are expected to arrive at the scene already in the morning.

The employees of the embassies of Finland, Sweden and Norway are evacuated from the building. Iraqi security forces have been deployed to protect the embassy.

There may also be demonstrations in other Iraqi cities, says Malinen.

The protests started when a 37-year-old man of Iraqi origin protested in front of Stockholm’s largest mosque by tearing up and burning the Koran on Wednesday.
