In response to Reddit’s actions, the developers of Minecraft announced that Mojang will no longer post official content on Reddit. The fans are understanding, but at the same time regret the decision.
Minecraft is the best selling game of all time. It was developed by Mojang Studios, a Swedish developer studio that has been part of Microsoft since 2014.
Reddit is one of the primary sources of information and interface between the developers of Minecraft and the players.
The developers use the platform for an exchange, among other things, and they also use it to provide information about new features and updates. However, the platform is no longer a suitable place for them.
The Swede Markus Alexej “Notch” Persson developed Minecraft single-handedly:
Why is Reddit no longer a suitable place for Minecraft developers? Minecraft’s Java tech lead reached out to gamers on the Minecraft subreddit. His post on reddit currently has over 13,000 upvotes.
He writes there:
As I’m sure you’ve heard, the Reddit administration has recently introduced changes that have resulted in rule and moderation changes across many subreddits. Because of these changes, we feel that Reddit is no longer a suitable place to post official content or direct our players to it.
We want to thank you for all of the feedback and discussion you’ve participated in in previous changelog threads. You are of course still welcome to create unofficial update threads. However, if you would like to reach the team with feedback on the game, please visit our feedback site at feedback.minecraft.net or contact us through any of our official social media channels.

Here’s how the community is reacting: The community responds with understanding. DamageBooster writes: “Understandable. What other good places are there to read the changelogs once they’re released?” and gets close to 4,000 upvotes.
Many use the post to exchange possible alternatives to get news about updates and fixes. Among other things, Discord is suggested. bozrdang notes, “Discord is not searchable via internet search engines.”
SonicwaveMC would like a Minecraft forum: “Personally, I’d like to see the Minecraft forum (or any other old-style forum) used again, but I doubt it ever will.”
FoxFired calls it “the end of an era.” Kyyndle replies, “It’s understandable why Mojang made this decision, but it’s still very disappointing to see.”
This is how big the Minecraft subreddit is: The Minecraft subreddit, created in June 2009, has 7.4 million followers.
For comparison, the r/leagueoflegends subreddit has 6.4 million members, while the World of Warcraft subreddit has 2.3 million followers. r/StardewValley has 1.5 million members, r/Terraria 1.2 million.
Apparently, Minecraft even helped some players to get their current jobs: fans talk about skills they learned thanks to gaming
