In League of Legends, a real scandal seems to be brewing in the LCK, the best league in the world. At the center of the excitement is 23-year-old Kim “Clid” Tae-min, Super-Star Faker’s former jungler. He now plays for Hanwha Life, but the team has now removed him from the line-up. 2 women are accusing him of sexually harassing them both via social media apps. One was a minor at the time the professional allegedly molested her.
Who is Clid?
Clid played with Faker for a season:
Inappropriate messages sent via social media
Those are the allegations against him: On June 27, a woman took to social media to say that Clid had been inappropriately approaching her through the app “KakaoTalk” for an extended period of time.
He is said to have written stuff like (via reddit):
After the woman pointed out that he should save something like that, Clid is said to have said that he chose the words out of affection. The woman then complained to his team but said she was ignored, prompting her to sue him.
There were further allegations from a second woman that Clid behaved similarly towards her on Facebook and at a time when she was a minor. Clid knew that she was a minor.
PR agency makes statement on behalf of Clid
What are the reactions? There are currently no official statements from Clid or his team, but the situation is having its first consequences. Several LCK Clid players and employees have already unfollowed them on social media – a LCK video about Clid was also taken off the internet.
Clid’s marketing agency issued a statement on his behalf apologizing for the behavior (via twitter) but stressing that Clid never met the person.
In addition, the agency emphasizes that they did not want to hurt anyone, but apologizes for the behavior and describes it as embarrassing. You take responsibility for not having managed the transition from the virtual world to the real world “elegantly”.
His team also took Clid out of the squad. In his place, 18-year-old Jo “Grizzly” Seung-ho will make his LCK debut.
How is this discussed? On reddit, LoL fans are pretty cold hearted. There are already open recommendations as to which jungler his team should replace Clid with.
In any case, reddit doesn’t seem to think much of Clid. They say he’s a terrible player. If he wasn’t allowed to play the hero he wanted to play, he would be secretly sabotaging his team’s game.
Other Reddit users also etched against Clid: The botlaner Viper must have read the news and cried with joy that he was rid of this terrible jungler.
A user says:
I love it when there are serious allegations of sexual abuse and the first thing the lol community thinks about is how it affects the teams, not the victims or potential further victims.
The user is countered: This shows that LoL has become a “real sport”. When a football player is banned for sexual misconduct, fans don’t care about the victims either, but ask: For how long?
