Sands is best known for his role in the 1985 film A Room With A View opposite actress Helena Bonham Carter.
It was hikers who found human remains on Saturday. Now the police have confirmed that the remains are the actor.
“The cause of death is still under investigation pending further test results,” the police wrote in a statement.
Sand’s family wrote in a statement that they are “deeply grateful to the search teams and coordinators who have worked tirelessly to find Julian.”
Julian Sands turned 65 years old.
